Palestinian killers of American Christian nabbed near Hebron Israel on Wednesday indicted four Palestinian Arab men, two of whom confessed to the December 19 murder of American Christian tourist Kristine Luken and the attempted murder of her friend Israeli tour guide Kaye Wilson while the two women were hiking in a forest near Jerusalem. Wilson’s life was spared in the attack when she managed to fool the terrorists into believing she was already dead, after being stabbed several times in the chest and back with what appeared to be a bread knife. Luken was not so fortunate. After the terrorists left the scene, Wilson struggled to reach a nearby Israeli community, where local residents provided aid and contacted police. Police officials later said the information provided by Wilson was “crucial” to capturing the terrorists two days later on December 21 in villages outside the Judean town of Hebron. But the story didn’t end there. After nabbing the men who attacked Luken and Wilson, police discovered they were part of a 13-man group that had originally been involved in petty crime, but had in recent years turned to terrorism. The men said that after the January 2010 assassination of top Hamas operative Mahmoud Mabhouh in Dubai, presumably by Israel, their thoughts turned to murder. “We wanted to kill Jews,” one of the men was quoted as telling police. They missed their mark with Luken, who was an American Christian working for the Anglican Church ministry Christian Mission to the Jews (CMJ). Wilson, who is an Israeli Messianic believer in Yeshua (Jesus), also works under the auspices of the CMJ. The men confessed to killing Luken and trying to kill Wilson, to murdering a Jewish schoolteacher near the town of Beit Shemesh last February, to opening fire on Israeli army patrols in Judea and to a long string of home burglaries and car thefts in Beit Shemesh and other Israeli towns. They are also suspected of raping a Jewish woman in 2009. Eight members of the cell have so far been captured. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rice: What's Jewish is Israeli, what's Arab is Palestinian By TOVAH LAZAROFF 01/27/2011 02:21 According to "Palestine Papers" former US secretary of state said in 2008 that Ma’aleh Adumim and Ariel settlements would remain part of Israel. During closed-door 2008 negotiations, the US affirmed its understanding that the Ma’aleh Adumim and Ariel settlements along with the east Jerusalem Jewish neighborhoods would likely remain part of Israel in any final-status agreement with the Palestinians, according to the “Palestine Papers” that were published this week. “Everyone understands that what is Jewish is Israeli and what is Arab is Palestinian,” then-US secretary of state Condoleeza Rice told Palestinian negotiators when talking with them about Jerusalem on July 16, 2008. RELATED: Erdan praises leaks for showing how much Israel offered Qurei: Ma’aleh Adumim residents can live in our state In that conversation, which took place at the State Department in Washington, the Palestinians expressed their newly formulated offer that Jewish neighborhoods of east Jerusalem could remain part of Israel in exchange for equivalent territory within the Green Line. Notes from that conversation were part of a cache of 1,684 documents, known as the Palestine Papers, which were compiled by the PLO Negotiation Support Unit. They were leaked to Al- Jazeera and through it to the Guardian, both of which published a small number of the documents on their websites this week. According to an informal transcript of that July 16 conversation, Palestinian negotiator and former Palestinian Authority prime minister Ahmed Qurei warned he would withdraw the proffered concession regarding east Jerusalem Jewish neighborhoods, if Israel insisted on retaining the third largest West Bank settlement of Ma’aleh Adumim, located just east of the capital. “Jerusalem is out, if they take Ma’aleh Adumim,” Qurei said. “No, Jerusalem is not out!” Rice responded. “But we don’t want to fly to Jerusalem by helicopter,” responded Qurei, who said Ma’aleh Adumim was necessary to insure the territorial contiguity of a future Palestinian state and with Jerusalem’s Arab neighborhoods. “I don’t think any Israeli leader is going to cede Ma’aleh Adumim,” Rice said. “Or any Palestinian leader,” retorted Qurei.” “Then you won’t have a state!” Rice exclaimed. “It’s like the refugees – they can live under Palestinian law,” said Qurei, referring to an idea that came up during a number of 2008 negotiations, in which Ma’aleh Adumim settlers would be allowed to remain within a Palestinian state. According to the Palestine Papers, Israel repeatedly rejected that notion. In the July 16 conversation, Rice said to Qurei, “I think you will have to find an answer for Ma’aleh Adumim. And we will have to find an answer for Ariel.” But, she said, “Israel has to put away some of their aspirations – like taking all of Judea and Samaria.” At a July 29 meeting with Palestinian negotiators in Washington that same year, Rice clarified her position on Ariel, whose status as a settlement bloc that would remain with Israel under an agreement has been less secure than that of Ma’aleh Adumim. “I’ve never said they had to give up Ariel,” Rice said, who added during that meeting that she did not believe Israel would be willing to relinquish it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Former US Deputy A-G: Pollard didn't harm US By GIL HOFFMAN 01/26/2011 22:23 Philip B. Heymann asks Obama to commute agent's sentence which he calls "entirely out of line with others engaging in similar behavior." Israeli agent Jonathan Pollard did not do any damage to the United States by passing classified information to Israel, former US deputy attorney-general Philip B. Heymann wrote US President Barack Obama Wednesday in a request to commute Pollard's sentence. Heymann is James Barr Ames Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, the author of two books on terrorism, and director of Harvard Law School's International Center for Criminal Justice. In his letter to Obama, he became the first US official to state that he has reviewed Pollard's complete record and found no evidence that helped America's enemies. RELATED: Rabbi Ovadia Yosef pushes for Pollard release George Schultz urges Obama to free Pollard "Pollard's conviction was justified but his sentence was entirely out of line with others engaging in similar behavior and it was made less-than-legitimate by a treacherous recommendation of the then secretary of defense [Caspar Weinberger]," Heymann wrote. "There is no evidence that Pollard intended to harm the United States or help its enemies." Officials active in the effort to bring about Pollard's release noted that he was charged with one count of passing classified information to an ally "with no intent to harm the US." They said that "no intent to harm the US" was legalese for there being no evidence that damage was done. Nevertheless, for years American officials claimed in the media that Pollard's actions caused damage to the US. Heymann confirms that the official record contains no evidence to support such a claim. Heymann became the second senior Harvard Law School professor to write Obama asking for him to commute Pollard's life sentence to the more than 25 years he has already served. The first was Charles Ogletree, who was a mentor to both Obama and his wife Michelle. "Having already served a severe sentence, Pollard is now supported by political and religious leaders across the political spectrum in seeking a commutation," Heymann wrote Obama. "I join them with deep conviction as to the justice of their shared cause." Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu formally and publicly requested that Obama release Pollard on January 4. Since then, Obama has not commented on the request and his spokesman only said that the request was received. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WikiLeaks Reveals Bush Administration Orders to Spy on Israel by Avi Yellin The WikiLeaks website last week leaked a secret State Department cable from October 31, 2008, directing United States officials to spy on Israel. The cable, dated only days before the 2008 American presidential elections, was signed by then-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. The recently leaked cable reveals former U.S. President George W. Bush’s foreign policy czar instructing American diplomats in Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, as well as the Defense Intelligence Agency and the CIA, to conduct a massive espionage operation against the Jewish state. The sought-for information covered all aspects of Israel’s political system, society, communications infrastructures and the Israel Defense Forces. Regarding the IDF, US diplomats and spies were instructed to gather intelligence on planned Israeli military operations against the American-backed Palestinian Authority, Syria and Lebanon. American agents were also asked to probe the attitudes of Israeli military commanders and to gather information on “IDF units, equipment, maintenance levels, training, morale, and operational readiness[;] IDF tactics, techniques and procedures for conducting conventional and unconventional counterinsurgency and counterterrorist operations[; and] Israeli assessment of the impact of reserve duty in the territories on IDF readiness.” As for political leaders, Rice instructed diplomats and spies to provide detailed information about government plans, potential ways Washington can influence politicians, how politicians decide to launch military strikes, the attitudes of Israeli leaders towards the U.S. and more. Rice also sought information about various aspects of Israeli society. She instructed diplomats and spies to gather details on everything from “Information on and motivations for any increased Israeli population emigration from Israel” to detailed information on Israeli residents of Judea, Samaria and the Golan Heights. Regarding residents of the Golan, Samaria and Judea, collectively labeled by Rice as “settlers,” the cable requested information on “Divisions among various settlement groups[;] details on settlement-related budgets and subsidies[;] settlers’ relationships with the Israeli political and military establishment including their lobbying and settlement methods.” Bush’s secretary of state expressed deep interest in all details related to Israel’s military and nonmilitary communications infrastructure. For instance, she directed American officials to gather information on “Current specifications, vulnerabilities, capabilities, and planned upgrades to national telecommunications infrastructure, networks, and technologies used by government and military authorities, intelligence and security services, and the public sector.” Perhaps most interesting, Rice requested personal data on Israeli leaders, asking for “official and personal phone numbers, fax numbers, and e-mail addresses of principal civilian and military leaders.” Rice's secret orders also included espionage against the American-backed PA and its rival Hamas. The cable requested "biographical, financial and biometric information on key PA and Hamas leaders and representatives, to include the young guard inside Gaza, the West Bank and outside." It is not presently known whether or how the information gathered on Rice's orders was put to use by the U.S. or if the espionage efforts against Israel put in place by the Bush administration are still in effect under President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Does anyone else see the problem here? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Revealed: How ISA Nabbed Terrorist Killers by Maayana Miskin The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) has revealed details of its investigation into the murder of a Christian tourist, an investigation that led to the capture of a terrorist cell that was discovered to have carried out a second murder as well as other violent assaults. The investigation was made public Wednesday. Investigators were able to nab the Palestinian Authority terrorists thanks to Kaye Wilson, who survived the vicious stabbing attack that killed her friend, tourist Christine Logan. Wilson was badly wounded in the stabbing, but managed to hike 400 meters through the forest while bleeding, barefoot, and with her hands tied and her face covered, until she encountered a family that called for help. Wilson's insistence that the men who attacked her and Logan had intended to murder, not rob, led to the Shin Bet joining the investigation. She had attempted to fight back during the assault, injuring one attacker and providing critical DNA evidence. The first killer located was Kifach Raneimat, 34, of the PA village of Kfar Tzurif in the Etzion bloc. Next, investigators tracked down Iyad Fatafateh, 33, of Tarkomiyeh, north of Hevron. Neither man was known to belong to a terrorist group, but both had a criminal background. The two admitted to the stabbing during questioning, and even reenacted the crime. They also admitted to another crime: the murder of Israeli citizen Neta Sorek-Blatt, a schoolteacher who was murdered last year near Beit Shemesh. They implicated a third PA man, Ibrahim Raneimat, in Blatt's murder. Ibrahim Raneimat was arrested, and admitted to his part in the crime as well. His confession, and those of Kifach Raneimat and of Fatafateh, led to the arrest of five other PA men, who are suspected of various crimes. Kifach Raneimat admitted to a third crime as well: the brutal stabbing of two teenagers near Beit Shemesh in early 2010. The two victims, a boy and girl, were badly wounded but survived. Illegal Entry, Crime, Terrorism The killers crossed the 1949 armistice line into pre-67 Israel many times, investigators found. They are suspected of several crimes against Israelis, including rape, attempted rape, theft, and home invasion. A Shin Bet investigator said the affair “shows the fluidity of the connection between illegal entry, crime, and terrorism.” The suspects “appeared to be cool and collected violent criminals, who did not hesitate to commit murder and expressed no regret.” (IsraelNationalNews.com) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Report: Mubarak’s Wife and Son Flee to London amid Protests by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu The wife of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and their son Gamal, considered the successor to his father as president, have fled to London with 97 suitcases after unprecedented massive protests in Egypt, an Arab website reported. Egyptian officials denied the claim. The plane also reportedly carried Gamal's daughter, the Akhbar Arab website reported. It also said a Twitter account was blocked to prevent a social network campaign to urge the ousting of Mubarak, who is over 80 and is reportedly is suffering from cancer. Dozens of Twitter messages have been sent saying that Mubarak’s wife Suzanne was identified at Heathrow Airport in London, where she and her son and granddaughter arrived in a private jet. In Egypt, calm has returned to the streets but authorities have arrested hundreds of protesters. Three people – two of them demonstrators — were killed in Tuesday’s rallies that spread throughout the country. (IsraelNationalNews.com) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Analysis: Western Naval Fleets Heading to Lebanon by Elias Bejjani Elias Bejjani is spokesman for the Canadian Lebanese Human Rights Federation (CLHRF) and Media Chairman for the Canadian Lebanese Coordinating Council (LCCC). Hizbullah, the armed Iranian-Syrian terrorist proxy, is resorting to all sorts of force, terrorism, intimidation, threats, bribery, division, sectarianism and instigation to install a new puppet government in Lebanon after toppling the Hariri national unity government January 13, in response to direct orders from its two Axis of Evil supporters, Syria and Iran. In a report that was published Tuesday in the Kuwaiti daily Alseyiasi, veteran analyst and journalist Hamid Gheriafi wrote that many Western and Arabic countries have been lately issuing urgent travel warnings. They have cautioned their citizens who are residing in Lebanon to take the highest required measures to avoid being targeted by Syria's and Hizbullah's armed groups and advising them not to travel deep into Lebanon's southern and Bekaa Valley regions or to go to Beirut areas, where there are Sunni Shiite tensions. The report stated that the whole democratic and Free World and the majority of the Arab countries are extremely concerned that Tehran's and Damascus's allies could take full control of the Lebanese state and all of its institutions, including both the army and internal security forces. The United States, European countries, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and many other countries have been conducting around the clock consultations on the highest level to abort this vicious Syrian-Iranian scheme. The Syrian-Iran full control of Lebanon will impose a dire threat to all the Arab countries, Israel, and Europe. Gheriafi learned from reliable European Intelligence sources in Brussels that at least two well-equipped Western military fleets were urgently ordered to move from the Arabian Gulf to positions close to both Syria and Lebanon in the Mediterranean Sea. They carried strict instructions to fully monitor and watch the unfolding events in Lebanon, especially in case Hizbullah, backed by Syria and Iran, succeeds in taking over the new Lebanese government. The intelligence sources did not unveil the identity of the Western fleets but confirmed that they comprise two nuclear aircraft carriers with 210 jet fighter planes on board, and more than 30 ships carrying about 5,800 marines armed with the latest technologies. The same sources said that the Israeli air and navy forces have been on a high alert status since last Friday after Lebanon's Druze Leader, MP Walid Jumblatt, decided to join Hezbollah and Syria with his parliamentary bloc. His support gave them the upper hand and a parliamentary majority that enables them to form a new pro-Syrian and -Iranian government, killing all chances for caretaker PM Sa’ad Hariri to return as a prime minister. A new Hizbullah-controlled government will cut all Lebanon’s legal and financial relations with the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) and force the country to fully join the Axis of Evil terrorist front comprised of Syria, Iran, Hamas and Hizbullah. The STL is expected to indict members from Hizbullah, Iran and Syria for the assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri and dozens of high ranking Lebanese politicians, clergy, journalists and intellectuals. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, his deputy and other high ranking officials expressed their very serious concerns in regard to the looming possibility that Lebanon will have a pro-Syrian and pro-Iranian government fully controlled by the terrorist Hizbullah and its allies. The U.S. administration and both Houses of Congress are looking seriously into the dreadful hazards that could affect both the peace process and stability in the Middle East, in case Hizbullah succeeds in forming and fully controlling Lebanon's new government. The Obama administration will most probably halt all kinds of aid to Lebanon and even impose harsh sanctions. In this same context, all the 18 countries with troops participating in the UNIFIL forces deployed in South Lebanon on the Lebanese-Israeli border are extremely concerned about their safety. These countries are definitely going to reevaluate their participation in UNIFIL, as well as their aid to Lebanon once Hezbollah's government is in office. In conclusion: The Free World and the Arabic countries have an obligation to help the Lebanese people by all available means, including military forces in a bid to stop Iran and Syria, through its armed terrorist proxy, Hizbullah, from taking over Lebanon and turning it into an arena for evil wars against all the democracies in the world. The confrontation with the Axis of Evil is inevitable and now it is the right time to act before it is too late and before a new Nazi dragon starts goose stepping in to devour all the Arab countries and Europe. (IsraelNationalNews.com) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Poll: No Future for the Labor Party by Maayana Miskin Most Israelis think the Labor party has lost touch with its roots, according to a poll conducted by Dr. Mina Tzemach of Dachaf for Channel 99, the Knesset channel. Just 1% of respondents believe there is a strong connection between today's Labor party and the historic Mapai party in terms of values, while 45% believe there is no connection at all. Many doubt Labor's future as well, with 69% saying they do not believe the party will recover from the recent split in its ranks. Labor head Ehud Barak and several supporters left Labor last week to form a new party that they are calling “Independence.” Twenty-four percent believe that Labor will go on to be a successful party despite the split. Those polled expressed doubts about the new Independence faction as well. A full 75% said they believe the new party has no diplomatic platform, while just 8% said they believe it does. Similarly, 70% said they believe the new party has no social platform, while 8% believe it does. Among those who believe there is an Independence social platform, respondents were split as to whether that platform is socialist – like that of the historic Labor party – or capitalist. The full survey will be published Thursday on the Knesset channel. (IsraelNationalNews.com)
